Hundreds-year-old structures of San Pedro de Atacama
Tierra Atacama, committed to sustainability and a connection with local culture, continues the tradition of incorporating centuries-old construction techniques.
The color palette is lifted from the landscape: beiges and neutral hues from the Atacameño soil, and recurrent blue tones from its stunning sky -clear by day and starry by night. Vegetation, as seen from the hotel itself, also makes an appearance inside, providing shades of orange from the chañar seeds and green from the cachiyuyos. I have played with this palette, combining different woods, leathers and textiles that create a warm, neutral atmosphere, imitating the landscape, in addition to colorful elements to lift spirits and delight.
Tierra Atacama has always been a pioneer in safeguarding local culture, materials and crafts and this part of its essence shines in the renovation. The hotel has a valuable collection of original Atacameño blankets and textiles, very different from colorful Peruvian and Bolivian textiles, which play an important role in the new look; as do the chañar seeds in its curtains, local wood and timber, stones from Toconao and Talabre, beautiful travertine marble from Calama, and black pottery from San Pedro, among other natural elements. These design choices are not only aesthetic, but are also thoughtful and ethical, valuing local beauty, products derived from the land and local culture and through materials that best pay tribute to the surroundings.
Tierra Atacama will offer a first class experience, as it always has, but with renewed energy and spaces.
